It also works the other way round, with non JW parents, I was thrown out because I was a witness.

JW Parents and kicking out their children
by NJ501 inis it a common practice for jw parents to kick their children out of the home, if the child doesn't want to be a jw.
(even though their not disfellowshipped they will still get kicked out for not going to meetings etc.??).
do other religions encourage kicking family members out this as well?

Just before the month ends I would like to congratulate the Watchtower magazine for completing its run of 138 years of publication. The first copy was printed July 1st 1879. Well done Watchtower!
As a reminder, let people remember that in its time this magazine has one of the world’s largest print runs for a periodical. An enviable record in the magazine industry.
Simultaneously it has to be the least read magazine in the world, in proportion to the number of copies made! That’s ‘cos only JWs can bear to read the contents. It is a truly puzzling read to non-JWs, this is because its contents are mainly Biblical threats and deeply patronizing propaganda to get the readers to conform to the will of the leadership.
Why was it not worth reading?
1/ it has never got any prediction right (and there have been many).
2/ it has never said anything original which was of any practical or spiritual use to the millions who have bought it or received it because any pronouncement has only a short shelf life.
And worse than that;
3/ it has distinctly misled and hurt millions of JWs into believing absurd and false hopes. It derails ambition, education and sound thinking. It creates an unhealthy state of mind. It leads to being shunned and sometimes to lack of self worth, depression and suicide, it splits up families because it demands loyalty to the Watchtower above family ties whatever the emotional cost.
The publicly stated reason for printing the Watchtower magazine in the first place was to announce the Kingdom’s arrival and the total restoration of earth to paradise under the King Jesus by 1914.
Have you noticed, it didn’t happen? Have you noticed it never does happen??
It's a pulp fiction genre but without the talent or excitement..............

The fraud that is the 70 year desolation
by Crazyguy inas we know being former jws that we were taught that jerusalem was destroyed then 70 years it would be desolate.
well this isn't about jerusalem and the 607/ 587 argument.
this is about the whole subject of the 70 years desolation being a huge bible fraud.

Jehovah's Witnesses Crimes Against Fellow Jehovah's Witness Victims
by Hecce ini ran a search and it seems that this was not posted before, there are 5 pages of criminal cases involving jws.. in the following criminal cases, the watchtower society - jehovah's witnesses religion served as the spiritual element of the perpetrator's and/or other actor's formative environment, or otherwise served as a major influencer of the perpetrator's and/or other actor's behavior.
the following cases are often tragic, and speak for themselves.. http://jwdivorces.bravehost.com/familicide4.html.

There's a lot of excruciating information on Bravehost about the misdemeanours of JWs. How about the mention of one JW missionary murdering a fellow missionary couple somewhere out in the south Pacific.
What a desperate human tragedy for the Zaklar JW family. With three apparently delinquent young adult children who die one after the other in road accidents, being drunk or chased by the police yet not allowed blood when in hospital. The JW mother not surprisingly, later taking her own life.
Yes JWs are ordinary people but there is one psychological layer which does not help them once converted to this religion. Petty infringements of normal behaviour might be or apologised for by the average person, perhaps compensated with a small gift or simply a with a twinge of guilt and a decision not to repeat it, of course depending on the type of error.
For a JW the conflict between the perfection demanded and normal life ("You must be perfect as I am perfect") creates an unhealthy tension. Often leading to lack of self worth or mental self-harm if not physical harm. Some individuals may think that they are condemned by God and therefore go through the motions expected in their high control religion but internally thinking they are already doomed. They might act according to the hopelessness and helplessness of their situation, especially when alcohol has removed their better judgement.
Beware the bad psychology of Biblical thinking!
I have not been able to find out who is behind the JW Bravehost site even after asking them directly. Has anyone any insight on who is producing this material? What is problematic for the researcher is the absence of references in most cases.

For Christians: What do you think about an Armagedon and the Afterlife
by John Davis ini don't mean for anyone to get into argument over this, i just want to hear what people believe.i hope that no one will mock or argue with someone else about their beliefs, i know that i won't in this topic.. i still believe in a christian god, not what jws believe, but believe that there has to be something after this life.
i am not sure about how armageddon would go, would it be like how evangelicals believe with a rapture or timing or anything, though i still believe in a form of armageddon.
i do think that all good people will go to heaven but i don't believe in a hell.

James Jack said
what the Hell is the real truth,
It's the obvious question to ask but only if you are religious!
However for the rest of mankind, this question does not arise because the rest of mankind does not imagine there is one set of holy doctrines which place divine "Truth" on a lofty pedestal.
It is a matter of coming to terms that most of us have had the wrong ideas indelibly planted in our minds that "out there" something special exists for our benefit --there is no credible evidence for this.
Instead of reading more of the Bible and religious works, get to grips with understanding how life evolved, understand the geological epochs and the layers and fossils which determine the sequence of life forms and which enable us to give dates to them. Study human biology, the human brain, its psychology, and the literature and art which is the product of both the imagination and the human spirit. Learn history and how power and wealth which is held by the few, keeps the masses subdued, importantly learn how they do it.
These are truths from which knowledge of reality comes...... not the fanciful tales of demented zealots found in the magic myths of the BIble.
Sorry John Davis , you didn't want to hear from me.

Well done Akid for finding this site--and welcome!
I started to get involved at your age and boy do I regret it. The worst decision of my life. Believe me after wasting years as a deluded member of this cult I am so glad I escaped and started to live again.
Let me just say that the teachings of JWs are all intended to make them servants if not slaves to their leaders and their teachings. JWs will strongly deny this because they can't see where they stand from being firmly stuck inside the organisation knowing that there are threats of punishment should they start to question the doctrines.
I'll be brief; the Bible is hopelessly contradictory and a work of propaganda, not surprising then that Christianity and JWs follow the in the same pattern; asserting things to be divine truths but what is really only propaganda. The lovely promised paradise is just too good to be true, it is a utopian dream, it will not happen and neither will Armageddon, they are fictions.
I wish I knew these things before I studied with JWs.
All the best to you as you learn that adult life is more complicated than you were thought. The best answer to all these questions is to learn to be able to understand how to distinguish between what is true and what is religious salesmanship...in other words do aim to get a good college education and learn that truth starts and ends with evidence not faith.
Do keep posting and let us know what you are thinking.

Leaders of God's very own private religion........all going straight to heaven upon dying to rule with God's son and the angels in heavenly glory.........controlling the earthly peasants and cajoling them into subservience...... now remember we are much more important than you and your mere family ties (but before the family splits, do assign your will to us with all of your family inheritance first).......if you don't believe we are personally appointed by God, our message to you is: get lost.
